suche eine Übersetzung von der "Panther" ins englische ! Könnt Ihr mir bitte helfen ? Danke schon mal !

Hier eine weitere und etwas andere Version - von Edward Snow -:

is like a dance of strength around a center
in which a great will stands numbed.

Only sometimes the curtain of the pupils
soundlessly slides up -. Then an image enters,
goes through the limbs` taut stillness -
and in the heart ceases to exist.

Wo liegen die Unterschiede ? Welche Übersetzung sagt Dir mehr ? Welches vermittelt eher die ursprüngliche Aussage Rilkes ?

R. Bly sagt mir auch nichts in diesem Zusammenhang. Zufälligerweise habe ich heute aber eine weitere englische Übersetzung gefunden von Rilkes "Panther" - von Stephen Mitchell:

The Panther
in the Jardin des Plantes , Paris

His vision, from the constantly passing bars,
has grown so weary that it cannot hold
anything else. It seems to him there are
a thousand bars; and behind the bars, no world.

As he paces in cramped circles, over and over,
the movement of his powerful soft strides
is like a ritual dance around a center
in which a mighty will stands paralyzed.

Only at times, the curtain of the pupils
lifts, quietly -. An image enters in,
rushes down through the tensed, arrested muscles,
plunges into the heart and is gone.

Ich finde, es ist eine sehr gut gelungene Übersetzung - von der Sprache und von der Aussage her ...

in seiner Rilke-Biographie "A Ringing Glass" zitiert Donald Prater noch eine andere, offensichtlich seine eigene Übersetzung des Gedichts (leider nur die letzten 2 Strophen):

• Soft padding steps of supple strenght,
  turning and turning in so small a space,
  are like a dance of power round a centre
  where a strong will lies benumbed.
  
  But now and then the curtain of the eyelid
  lifts soundlessly —. An image enters then,
  runs through the quiet tension of the limbs,
  reaches the heart – and ceases to exist.

Es ist aber nur eine Ausnahme. Sonst zitiert Prater die Gedichte Rilkes in der Übersetzung bekannter, angesehener Autoren: J.B. Leishman (aus den Sammlungen "Selected Works, vol. II: Poetry" und "Poems 1906-1926"), J.B. Leishman und S. Spender ("Duino Elegies"), S. Mitchel ("The Selected Poetry") und A. Poulin Jr. ("Duino Elegies and the Sonnets to Orpheus").

Nur der Vollständigkeit halber hier noch die Übersetzung von R. Bly:

The Panther
In the Jardin de Plantes, Paris

From seeing the bars, his seeing is so exhausted
that it no longer holds anything anymore.
To him the world is bars, a hundred thousand
bars, and behind the bars, nothing.

The lithe swinging of that rhythmical easy stride
which circles down to the tiniest hub
is like a dance of energy around a point
in which a great will stands stunned and numb.

Only at times the curtains of the pupil rise
without a sound.... then a shape enters,
slips through the tightened silence of the shoulders,
reaches the heart, and dies .

Ich muss schon sagen, die Übersetzung von S. Mitchell gefällt mir persönlich sehr viel besser . Und am allerschönsten ist natürlich immer noch der real Rilke !

Diese Übersetzung spricht die Musikerin Anne Clark in ihrem Album "Just after Sunset", das sie gemeinsam mit Martyn Bates aufgenommen hat. Ich habe noch keine andere Übersetzung ins Englische gesehen, die so nah am Wortlaut und zugleich auch gereimt ist.

Ich kann Dir auch meine Nachdichtung vom PANTHER ins Slowakischa anbieten, veröffentlicht in Rilkes ausgewählten Gedichten VYSADENY NA VRCHOCH SRDCA (Ausgesetzt auf den Bergen des Herzens, Nadacia Studna, Bratislava, 1999). Übrigens, dies ist die erste u. einzige Panther-Übersetzung ins Slowakische:

Leopard
v Jardin des Plantes, Paríž

Zrak unavilo mihotanie mreží,
čoho sa chytá, to hneď padá späť.
Zdá sa mu: Vôkol tisíc mreží beží
a za tisícmi mreží nie je svet.
